Arsenal star "can become as influential" as Gerrard, says Parlour

Ex-Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour believes Aaron Ramsey can become as influential at the club as Steven Gerrard is for Liverpool.

As reported by the Daily Star, Parlour has hailed the Welsh international who recently signed a new deal with the club.

Ramsey, despite having been out with injury in recent time, impressed in the early stages of the season and signed a £100,000-a-week deal with Arsene Wenger's side.

And now, Parlour has likened the midfield ace to Liverpool and England skipper Steven Gerrard.

The ex-Arsenal man told reporters: "Without doubt, Aaron Ramsey can become as influential as Steven Gerrard. Ramsey needs to believe in his own abilities.

“He is a young and exciting talent and will definitely be a top, top player in the future. He wants to learn and is blessed with the ideal attributes for a midfield player.

Parlour also insisted that Gerrard was the best opponent he ever faced in his playing career and Ramsey has the potential to emulate him.

He continued by saying: “Gerrard was the best player I have ever faced. I think he is absolutely world class. He isn’t as effective box-to-box as he was a few years ago, but he continues to make the difference.

“Ramsey was the perfect box-to-box midfielder in the first-half of the season and I always said if he could score a few more, he would be complete.”

Ramsey and Gerrard are currently competing for the Premier League title this season. The Gunners sit third in the league table, but have the same amount of points as the Merseyside outfit.

Arsenal and Liverpool both sit four points behind league leaders Chelsea with a game in hand on their title rivals.
