Manchester United hit by major blow in race for £33m Rakitic

Manchester United may just have to turn their transfer attentions elsewhere, as long-term target Ivan Rakitic has no interest in ever leaving Sevilla, according to his team-mate Marko Marin.

The on loan Chelsea star said that he believes the English giants are wasting their time in pursuit of Rakitic, as the Croatian playmaker only has eyes on his future at his current club. Both United and Liverpool have been linked on and off for the 26-year-old midfielder in recent months, with the reigning Premier League champions reportedly desperate to bring him in this summer.

However Marin is of the opinion that any lengthy pursuit of Rakitic will only end in disappointment. According to the Express he said: “I've known him for a while and his words were very important for me. He loves being here, I don't think he ever wants to leave."

Club captain Rakitic is a key player for Sevilla, and it’s thought any clubs wanting to prise him away from La Liga will have to meet a release clause which stands at a rumoured £33million. With United keen to bolster their midfield, and David Moyes likely to have a substantial amount of money to play with in the summer, meeting the figure isn’t completely out the question for them.

However if Marin is right then Rakitic may not want to move clubs, regardless of the supposed step up in quality it may bring. If that’s the case then Moyes would be wise to avoid any pursuit he may be planning.
