Eden Hazard has stated he wants to test himself against some of the biggest names in the Champions League, according to The Telegraph.
Chelsea advanced into the knockout stages of the Champions League after a comfortable victory over Turkish side Galatasaray, beating Roberto Mancini's side 2-0 at home (3-1 on aggregate). However Hazard has stated he is eager to test himself on a bigger stage.
"For me, it's important to test myself against Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi," the Belgian international said.
The 23-year-old has featured 30 times for the Blues this season, having scored 13 goals and collecting seven assists. Having been credited as having a similar style to Messi in the past, due to his lower-centre gravity and his incredible dribbling skills on the ball, one might assume that he was tired of being linked with the Barca star.
But for the Chelsea winger, Hazard has always aspired to be as good as these global icons.
"It's an aspiration for me to be as good as Messi or Ronaldo. I watch a lot of their games and try to be on the same level as them," he explained.
Cristiano Ronaldo has played 24 games this season and scored 25 goals, and in the Champions League the Portuguese attacker sits top scorer on 13 goals in seven games. Meanwhile Messi recently became Barcelona's all-time top goalscorer, after a hat-trick last weekend in their 7-0 win against Osasuna, managing 371 goals in a Barca kit.
The next round of the Champions League will be drawn on March 21, and Hazard wants to carry on performing in the biggest competition in the world.
"A big club wants every year to win the Champions League. It is probably the biggest club competition in the world.
"We'll see where we end up in the next round. We want to get as far as possible. There are better teams in the last eight, but we will try to make the best out of it."
