Manchester United have submitted a proposal for Lazio star Stefan Radu, as David Moyes looks to sure up his defence in the summer, according to reports in Italy.
Italian website TuttoMercato, citing sources in Rome, claims that the Romanian has been targeted by the reigning Premier League champions with a view to a purchase in the next transfer window. Having been consigned to losing club captain Nemanja Vidic to Inter Milan it makes sense that Moyes would be assessing potential centre-backs, but Radu’s connection is a relatively new one.
The 27-year-old has amassed 14 caps for his native Romania, but has only managed three Serie A appearances for Lazio this campaign, during which he has scored two goals. Fans of United may remember him from Sir Alex Ferguson’s time in charge of the club, where he was regularly linked with a transfer to the Premier League.
Though no sum is mentioned in the report, nor any details concerning the supposed ‘proposal’, the idea of United moving for Radu isn’t altogether too preposterous. Able to play at both centre-half and left-back, he could be a useful addition to Moyes squad for far cheaper than some of the alternate options who have been mentioned.
