Major League Baseball today announced an intriguing new partnership with online dating website Match.com.
The partnership will enable fans to search for potential dates based on their team allegiances, they will also be able to purchase tickets for baseball games through the website.
Noah Garden of MLB Advanced Media announced the partnership today: "The Match.com conversation is one we’ve had on and off over the years to see if there’s something we could do together. The idea is put like people together with similar interest and passion."
MLB's idea could be seen as just another way to get fans to buy tickets for games which have slipped behind a number of other major sports in North America recently.
However, the idea could well prove popular with hardcore fans. After all, what could possibly be worse for a Boston Red Sox fan than to find the perfect partner only to realize that they worship the Yankees?
Perhaps in time the idea could be rolled out among other major sports, in years to come possibly Seattle Seahawks fans will be able to connect with other '12 men (or women)'.
And even if the date doesn't work out, at least you get a great game in the deal.
