Royals baseman leaves game with serious hand injury

Kansas City Royals third baseman Danny Valencia injured himself in the bottom of the sixth inning today against the Los Angeles Angels.

Valencia was struck on the hand whilst trying to bat against the Angles Jered Weaver in the spring training match-up.

It's understood that the pitch caught Valencia on the left hand and the wrist area in an unfortunate incident that caused him to be relieved of his duties.

The baseman didn't return for the rest of the game and he is said to be in serious pain as a result of the incident.

Valencia was traded to the Royals by the Orioles in exchange for outfielder David Lough for the upcoming season.

He is currently vying for a spot on the Royals bench, having played defensively only at second base. Valencia played in 52 games for the Orioles last season, hitting .304/.335/.553 with 8 homers and 23 RBI.
