2. Hampton 58, Iowa St 57 The original MEAC over Big 12 Shocker

In 2001 Iowa St. was a 2-seed, after winning the Big 12 regular season championship. They we led by conference Player of the year Jamaal Tinsley.

None of that mattered to Hampton, champions of the MEAC, who despite being out rebounded by nine, and shooting under 40 percent from the floor, forced 17 turnovers and and came up with a dramatic win.

Tarvis Williams had 16 points and 13 rebounds, including the go-ahead lay up with just under seven seconds remaining.

Tinsley missed a chance to win the game with under two seconds to play. Despite the heartbreak, Tinsley went on to play 11 seasons in the NBA, most notable with the Indiana Pacers.
