Incredible NHL goal of the year candidate scored

The Ottawa Senators are having a poor season this year and don't have much going for them as they are seemingly set to miss the playoffs.

But their fans were treated to something spectacular last night when Ales Hemsky made the Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman look like amateurs as he waltzed through to score a sure fire goal of the season winner.

The 30-year old's stats have been in decline of late but he rolled back the years to destroy Radko Gudas with ease with the between the legs deke, before busting past another defender and the goaltender with a lovely handle before netting.

Hemsky was acquired by the Senators in a deadline deal with the Edmonton Oilers, where Ottawa gave up a third and fifth round pick to get their man.

The move has been a good one for the right winger and his new team as his two goals and six assists in seven games for Ottawa show.

Despite his rejuvenation, it seems like it is going to be too little too late for the Senators to make a run into the post-season.

The Senators are lagging nine points behind the last playoff spot - currently being contested by the Columbus Blue Jackets and New York Rangers - but at least they have this goal to show for their season.
