I’m going to start this article by saying whilst I do not think Manchester United will sign all of these players they are simply the ones in my opinion that they should try to bring in.

It is rumoured that David Moyes has a £200million warchest at his disposal and below are the positions that need to be filled in for the start of next season.

A new CB
Top candidate- Ezequiel Garay
Potential Cost- £20million

With Nemanja Vidic leaving at the end of the season and possibly Rio Ferdinand as well, United need to sign a new centre back or possibly two. Whilst Eliaquim Mangala has been linked to Manchester United in the papers I personally think Garay is a much better candidate for two simple reasons.

Firstly our current centre backs (Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Johnny Evans) are all young so Garay, at the age of 27, would provide more experience and also not only is competition for Mangala high, so is his price tag of £40million. United should avoid getting involved in a bidding war with Manchester City and other clubs as Garay is a more realistic signing. Other candidates include Mattias Ginter and Mats Hummels (£30m).

A new LB
Top Candidate- Luke Shaw
Potential Cost £30million

It is looking very likely that Patrice Evra will be leaving at the end of this season when his contract expires and Luke Shaw is the perfect replacement for him. In the summer he will have had two full seasons of Premier League experience at the tender age of 19 and is one of the best fullbacks in the league.

His value will definitely increase as he breaks into the England squad so United should do their utmost to fend off interest from Chelsea and the other interested clubs and try to sign the young fullback quickly. Other candidates include Fabio Coentrao and Alberto Moreno (£25m).

A new CM
Top candidates: Ilkay Gundogan, William Carvalho
Potential Cost £20m and £30m (respectively)

Whilst many United fans may say that only a partner to Michael Carrick is needed, the Englishman is ageing and his performances have dropped this season. Whilst Gundogan has been injured for most of this season he is one of the best young centre-midfielders in the world. With his contract expiring in 2015 he will be available for a cut price this summer or potentially free the year after.

William Carvalho may be unknown to many football fans but he is quickly becoming one of the rising stars in the Portuguese Liga. He is 21 and has already been dubbed the new Patrick Viera. He is an absolute beast and could be Manchester United’s answer to Yaya Toure. He simply is an a juggernaut when he starts running and is calm and composed on the ball. After the World Cup his value will be much higher so United should do their utmost to sign him before then. Other targets include Toni Kroos and Koke.

A new winger
Top Candidate: Antoinne Griezmann
Potential Cost £20-30m

Whilst United have enough wingers and the emergence of Adnan Januzaj has been one of the positives of this season I feel the quality of the wide men is not good enough. Also Juan Mata is not a winger, he excels as an attacking midfielder as he does not have the stamina to play out wide.

As such Griezmann would be a huge improvement on the likes of Ashley Young and Nani. He is only 22-years-old and is the joint 5th top scorer in La Liga behind Cristiano Ronaldo, Diego Costa, Lionel Messi and Alexis Sanchez. Much like Carvalho, after the World Cup his value will be much higher so United would ideally land him before then.

Other targets include Angel di Maria and Xherdan Shaqiri.

There may be some people who do not think United will be able to compete for these players in the summer due to the lack of Champions League football, however the Red Devils are the most successful English club ever and only Barcelona and Real Madrid can compete with them in terms of worldwide appeal.

Just as Van Persie listened to the “little boy inside of him” and joined Manchester United in 2012, I am sure there are other world class players who will be open to the idea of moving to Old Trafford.

World class players consider two things; money and ambition, which is why Monaco managed to sign some world class players last summer even though they couldn’t offer Champions League football this season.

Manchester United clearly have the money to spend with Wayne Rooney recently signing a £300,000-a-week contract and the chance to play in front of 76,000 fans at Old Trafford on the same turf as the likes of Ronaldo, David Beckham, Eric Cantona etc will be too good an opportunity to pass up.
