When Robin van Persie joined Manchester United in 2012, the deal most certainly fell into the category of pivotal.

Not only did the Dutchman fire Sir Alex Ferguson’s Red Devils to last season's Premier League title, but the switch also served as a reminder of just how defining a big purchase can be in football.

Regardless of the fee spent, a club can ever so easily change their fortunes by bringing in a world-class talent. It’s for this reason we here at GMS believe that a number of clubs will try to do just that this summer. Not only are the Premier League’s giants now involved in one of the most hotly contested domestic campaigns we’ve ever seen, but there’s a number of clubs who have established themselves as serious threats on the European front.
