There are few more exciting things than seeing a young player for the first time and them showing glimpses of what looks like great talent.
It was the kind of feeling we had when seeing Lionel Messi play for the first time, the diminutive teenager looking as though he was mostly made of hair and that he could get lost in his shirt at any moment. Cristiano Ronaldo playing for the Portugal Under-21s sparked a similar feeling, all race pace and terrible hair.
It happens all the time, watching a young player pull off some surprising quality and immediately your thoughts turn to how good they may be one day. This is often followed by an internal question as to whether your club should sign them.
Seeing a young player develop into one of the world's leading talents must be a nice feeling for the coach or scout that picked them out in their early days. Sadly, predictions are notoriously unreliable when it comes to judging whether a player will turn promise into lasting quality.
Trying to pick out players you think will develop into world class stars is a very enjoyable pastime and we at GMS have decided to do just that. We have picked out ten young players currently plying their trade in Europe who are putting in some exciting performances and we think will end up being the game's leading stars in a few years time.
