William Carvalho is probably a very good footballer - I can't say for sure though because I've never seen him play.
But for £37m? That sounds ludicrously expensive for a 21-year-old player with two international appearances, barely 20 top flight games in the Portuguese league and zero Champions League experience.
As a quick comparison Mario Gotze (same age) has 27 appearances for a much more talented Germany team, more than 100 Bundesliga games under his belt and cost roughly the same amount.
So if these reports that claim Manchester United have signed Carvalho for £37m are true, then surely United have horribly overpaid?
Of course, when United are involved in a transfer involving a Portuguese player, you don't have to look too far to uncover the shadow of Jorge Mendes.
The "super-agent" has had a role in each of the deals involving Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Bebe, and he is linked to Carvalho as well. His players are often transferred for famously inflated fees.
So with Carvalho at £37m in mind, we will consider five other summer transfer targets who aren't worth anywhere near their stated valuation.
