Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has cancelled his press conference ahead of Tuesday's game with Swansea after admitting he remains puzzled by the thrashing at Chelsea.

The Gunners were beaten 6-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, a result that seriously damages their hopes of challenging for the Premier League title, and Wenger has taken the unusual step of not speaking to the press on Monday.

Jose Mourinho has heaped praise on Nemanja Matic for the influence he's had on his side's performances since his return to Chelsea in January.

The Serb left for Portugal as a makeweight in the deal that brought David Luiz to Stamford Bridge, but has proven his worth with the Blues conceding just four goals in the 12 games that Matic has featured.

Manchester United boss David Moyes has paid tribute to stand-in skipper Wayne Rooney - and hinted the striker is the standout contender to take the role permanently.

With Nemanja Vidic suspended and Patrice Evra benched, Rooney was handed the armband for Saturday's trip to West Ham and produced an inspired two-goal performance crowned by a sensational halfway-line strike.
