Wenger suffered during his 1000th game..

Top 7: Most embarrassing Premier League hammerings (1)

Published 2 Comments

Arsenal were handed their backsides on a plate by a rampant Chelsea side on Saturday morning and there can be no doubt that it was one of the most embarrassing defeats of Arsene Wenger's 1000 matches in charge.

Jose Mourinho was gleeful as his side exploded out of the blocks at Stamford Bridge and made a huge statement regarding Chelsea's title credentials. It was another win for the Portuguese against one of his title rivals as he continued his unbeaten run over Wenger and made the race for the Premier League title more than likely a three-horse race.

Sadly for the Gunners, it was not the first time this season they have been spanked by a fellow top four side, both Liverpool and Manchester City handed out multi-goal beatings to the north Londoners already. This was not only one of the most embarrassing defeats of a so called title rival this season, it was one of the most embarrassing defeats in Premier League history.

The obvious progression of that statement is to consider which hammerings by fellow top sides there have been the and where this season's thrashings of the Gunners strand next to them. Although, we should point out that is not intended to be an Arsenal-bashing exercise and we realise that Manchester United also got a whooping at the hands of derby rivals Manchester City early in the season.

So, we have taken a little look back at some of the most one-sided clashes between big teams in the Premier League and have picked out the seven most embarrassing.
