"Why Always Me?" sais Mario Balotelli's t-shirt. Why indeed. This match became best-known for the Italian striker's unusual goal celebration, which is a shame because it really was a magnificent performance from the Citizens.

To win like that at your local rivals' and Premier League holders' home ground was a major statement of intent by Roberto Mancini's side, though it was an embarrassing self-destruction by Sir Alex Ferguson's men of epic proportions.

It was only 1-0 to Manchester City at half time and they did not look quite so dominant, that is until Jonny Evans was shown a straight red card for a professional foul. Balotelli scored the second of his two goals on the hour, before Sergio Aguero made it three.

Darren Fletcher made it 3-1 with just under ten minutes remaining and it looked like finishing that way until an Edin Dzeko brace sandwiched David Silva's strike in injury time.
