World Cup 2014: Potential All-Star XI (12)

Published 3 Comments

Striker: Lionel Messi | Argentina (Barcelona)

Lionel Messi is coming back to form at the perfect time, having scored back-to-back hat-tricks in his two most recent Barcelona matches against Osasuna and Real Madrid. And, for the last two years, the world’s greatest player has also managed to replicate his club form on the international stage.

Argentina will be comfortable playing in Brazil, while thousands of Argentinians will cross the border to cheer their team in every single match.

Messi didn’t enjoy a great 2010 World Cup, but now he has a proper manager in charge of proceedings, and he will come into this summer’s tournament fresher thanks to a mid-season injury.

If Messi inspired Argentina to World Cup glory - then the debate will cease and the prolific genius will be widely regarded as the greatest player of all time.
