Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will axe Wojciech Szczesny, Olivier Giroud and Mikel Arteta from his starting line-up for tonight’s Premier League clash against Swansea City following Saturday’s humiliating 6-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Wenger was left infuriated after watching his side’s capitulation in his 1,000th match in charge of the Gunners - and has decided to ring the changes ahead of tonight’s match at the Emirates Stadium, according to the Daily Mail.
The Frenchman, who even cancelled Monday’s pre-match press conference, will bring in cup goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski in place on the out-of-form Szczesy, while Giroud is expected to be left out of the squad altogether in a bid to rest him for Saturday’s clash against fellow title contenders Manchester City.
Yaya Sanogo is subsequently in line to make his first Premier League start for the Gunners, with Nicklas Bendtner unlikely to play for the club again following his recent drunken antics in Copenhagen.
Meanwhile, Wenger is likely to start either Mattieu Flamini or loan-signing Kim Kallstrom in place of Arteta, whose below-par performance against Chelsea was widely criticised.
Arsenal go into tonight’s fixture nine points off league-leaders Chelsea - albeit with a game in hand over Jose Mourinho’s side. The Gunners’ faithful will expect their side to make amends for Saturday’s drubbing and get their title challenge back on track with a convincing victory over 15th-placed Swansea, who haven’t won a Premier League game since early February.
