Big, big things happened for the LA Lakers today. They won a big game.

Not just any big game, but a game against the New York Knicks, a resurgent team in their own right.

Slightly different than normal due to there being absolutely no pressure on the team now, thanks to missing the playoffs, the Lakers had no recognised starters.

In an effort to give the squad a bit more of an outing, especially the younger players, the Knicks made them looks good.

So records fell. During the third quarter the Lakers netted 51 points. Not only is that the most the Knicks have ever conceded in a quarter but it's also the most the Lakers have scored in quarter at home.

Xavier Henry, despite having a wrist injury, led the scoring with 2 points and was allowed to play. Big names Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Pau Gasol and Jordan Farmer are all out injured.

The biggest single player award of the night has to go to Carmelo Anthony who did his potential free agency stocks no harm at all by netting 33 points.

The fans were the real winners, having got two straight wins in a row, as the home crowd were treated to tacos.
