Arsenal fans slam Arteta on his birthday

As Mikel Arteta celebrated his 32nd birthday yesterday, the Arsenal midfielder was the subject of heavy criticism from fans of the north London outfit.

As reported by The Metro, some Gunners supporters criticised the Spaniard and called on him to leave the club following a number of disappointing performances.

Arteta was in the Arsenal side that suffered a humiliating 6-0 defeat to Premier League title rivals Chelsea this past weekend and the Spaniard also featured in the Gunners' disappointing 2-2 draw with Swansea City at the Emirates on Tuesday evening.

And now it appears that the patience of the Arsenal fans has run out, with the club now seemingly out of the race for the title.

The long term future of Arteta also appears in doubt, with the midfielder yet to sign a new contract with the Emirates outfit. Despite the likes of Tomas Rosicky, Per Mertesacker and Co. having been rewarded with new deals in recent time, it appears that there isn't an offer on the table for the club's vice captain.

It remains to be seen as to whether Arteta will be handed a new deal with the club, but for now his long term future with the club seems far from certain.
