Arsenal might not offer midfielder Mikel Arteta a contract extension and instead are looking to bring in a younger midfielder to replace him, according to Goal.
The Spaniard's contract will run out at the end of next season. While Arsenal has handed new contracts to a few senior players such as Tomas Rosicky and Per Mertesacker, Mikel Arteta has not been one of them. It is also understood that Arsene Wenger will have a transfer kitty of nearly £100 million to spend this summer.
The Gunners boss could be looking for a young player to take up Mikel Arteta's duties in midfield after next season. Arteta has just celebrated his 32nd birthday, but has had relatively few injury troubles for his age in recent years.
Still, Arteta has struggled against big teams this season and has mostly kept his place in starting line-up due to the absence of Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey. His value to Arsenal should not be underestimated, though. He's a strong character in the dressing room and bring that to the pitch as well.
Among other senior players, the Gunners will be looking to tie down Bacary Sagna to a new contract as well. The Frenchman has reportedly been offered £75,000 a week on a two year contract with the option to extend for a third year. Sagna seems to be holding out for a three year contract on £90,000 a week instead.
