Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White has finally followed through with a bet he made through twitter and has given a fan two season tickets along with two Super Bowl tickets.
White was left in a tough spot last week after making a bet with a fan on an NCAA tournament match between third-seeded Duke and underdog Mercer.
White had told fan Dylan Hoyt that he would present him with season tickets on the 50 yard line if 14th seeded Mercer managed to defeat the heavily favoured Duke basketball team.
The game finished 78-71 to Mercer in the NCAA tournament and many people on twitter were quick to remind the NFL wideout that he had lost the bet and had to honour his commitment.
A team official of the Atlanta Falcons confirmed White would present Hoyt with two season tickets along with the aforementioned Super Bowl tickets.
White didn't want to make the story any bigger than he felt it needed to be but confirmed that he felt obliged to honour his bet due to the class act Hoyt had been throughout the whole matter.
White told ESPN.com: ""I'm a man of integrity and definitely a man of my word, and the kid is a great kid, We have talked about it for days while people were just speculating. And being a father, you have to be responsible for your actions. I have always been a 'say what you do and do what you say' type of guy. And I wanted to add some incentives because he was so cool."
There was initial speculation whether White would actually honour the bet after some of the comments he had made on twitter, this is how it played out:
White initially tweeted saying: "Y'all people are crazy on twitter you want me to man up and pay a bet to a person that had nothing to lose in the bet #soundsridicules"
Before following up with a short tweet saying: "Plus it's illegal to gamble in the NFL"
Fortunately White seems to be a rather down to earth kind of professional Athlete as he shortly afterwards tweeted Dylan Hoyt saying "@DHoyt77 2 season tickets, 2 SB tix, pregame sideline passes to game and a day at camp as my guest. How does that sound."
Hoyt was absolutely delighted with the outcome and took to twitter also to express his joy: "I tried telling y'all @roddywhiteTV was a good guy in the end!! Couldn't ever imagine something this awesome! #RiseUp"
It was a classy move from the Falcons receiver and this little interaction between a player and a fan has a happy ending to fun story.
