David Moyes faces axe after Bayern Munich game - Verheijen

Manchester United manager David Moyes will lose his job after Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich destroy his side in the Champions League quarter-finals first leg at Old Trafford on Tuesday night - that’s the prediction of former Wales coach Raymond Verheijen.

The outspoken Dutchman has been heavily critical of Moyes and the beleaguered Scot’s backroom staff throughout the season - and has referred to Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor as a ‘tactical dinosaur’ on multiple occasions over recent months.

Verheijen went on another Twitter rant about Moyes on Thursday evening, and believes the gulf in coaching knowledge between the ex-Everton boss and Guardiola could be so harrowing for the former that he loses his job next week.

“The visit of Bayern Munich & Guardiola to Old Trafford will have the cosmic impact of an asteroid or comet, ending the reign of a dinosaur,” the 42-year-old tweeted.

Verheijen also referred to the under-fire Moyes as “unconsciously incompetent” as well as a “tactical nitwit”, and doubted the current Manchester United manager’s ability to develop into a “tactical Einstein” over time.

Moyes is under severe pressure at Old Trafford following a dreadful debut season with the reigning Premier League champions, with the most recent poor result coming in last Tuesday’s embarrassing 3-0 home defeat to local rivals Manchester City.

Manchester United are the firm underdogs against European champions Bayern Munich, who secured the Bundesliga title in recent time earlier this week. While their coach, Guardiola, appears to have achieved the impossible and improved on perfection since arriving at the Allianz Arena last summer.

Is Verheijen right: will Moyes be sacked next week? Have your say in the comments section below.
