Brisbane Roar forward Besart Berisha has endured something of an ill-disciplined season so far, with the Albania international having received three red cards in just 16 appearances in the A-League.
Berisha’s latest sending off came during a 2-1 victory for Brisbane Roar over Melbourne Heart on Friday, with this red card ensuring he became the first A-League player to have ever been sent off three times in a single season.
It was, in fact, the second game in succession in which Berisha received his marching orders, and the referee had no choice other than to send him to the stands against Melbourne Heart after a truly awful challenge.
With a loose ball breaking past the Heart defence their goalkeeper Tando Velaphi advanced in order to collect, but Berisha tried to get his foot in first. He managed to get a touch on the ball, but got far more of Velaphi, stamping down on the neck of the ‘keeper with a shocking lunge.
Perhaps Berisha may have been a little unfortunate in the way his foot bounced up off the ball but, given his previous form, there may well have been intent from the Albanian.
