Internazionale won their last Scudetto in 2010, while Jose Mourinho was still in charge.
After the departure of Rafa Benitez and Leonardo, Walter Mazzari took over the club and is now having problems with winning trophies. Some players have to suffer by not playing regular first team football. Players like Mateo Kovacic and Mauro Icardi.
Following the World Cup, most of the club's players will have to start matches to deserve their national team spot. Obviously, not all of them will succeed. The head coach considers some players surplus in the team and fans would mostly disagree to keep the players of this caliber sitting on the bench.
Mateo Kovacic made his debut for the Nerazzuri in February 2013 at the age of 18. Upon his arrival, he was given the number 10 shirt, worn previously by the Dutchman Wesley Sneijder. By the end of the season, the Croatian was a starter in every Serie A game.
The Austria-born player is estimated to be worth €15million. As for the national squad, he participated in eight games, producing a particularly extraordinary performance against Iceland in November 2013 and will strive to secure his place for the upcoming World Cup.
In 25 Serie A matches this season, he started from the bench 17 times, not able to demonstrate his ability by the lack of games. Mazzari should start including him into the first team if he wants to keep him at Giuseppe Meazza. Otherwise, he will look for regular football elsewhere.
