The Lakers have dug themselves a deep hole and the only way they can get out of such a predicament is with the front office doing their job.
The Lakers front office has been widely known as one of the best front offices in the NBA as they have created multiple dynasty and kept the Lakers in contention almost every year, but I think once father Dr.Buss died the team's front office has fallen off. Its quite sad to see, seeing as it has only been a year since his death and the franchise has already smeared what he had built up for many years.
In my mind the Lakers unique problem is having an ageing superstar in Kobe Bryant who has just signed a two year extension; our money is just a tad locked up so what are we to do?
We need to use every method of getting talent possible and when I say that, I mean we need to keep our players that are good fits for the team already, get players from this year's stacked draft, and go after free agents.
The top five guys of this draft have the potential to be superstars and the same goes for most of the first rounders. Just in case you don't know who the top five guys are, watch out for Joel Embiid, Dante Exum, Marcus Smart, Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker. Any of those guys can be the next big thing and if the Lakers land any one of them I can guarantee they will be the talk of the town. Now obviously this is not the only reason why the draft is one of the most stacked ever, there are plenty of other great players that we will have to take a wait and see approach with.
The second thing we need to do is go all out in the next two years free agency market, which primarily consists of two players that have expressed their interest for playing with the purple and gold - namely superstars Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Love.
Me personally would rather us get the younger superstar in Love who is, though injury prone at times, still the best at his position. Don’t get me wrong though, if we get Carmelo i’ll still be ecstatic. The players on the current team that are must keeps for the side are Nick Young, Jordan Farmar, Kendall Marshall, Jordan Hill, much improved Jodie Meeks, and Xavier Henry. If we keep them our bench will remain as one of the deepest in the leagues and we all know the key to a championship is having a great bench.
Now i’m not saying we can just get rid of the rest of the players that I didn't name but I do believe that the players listed will be a vital key to success.
If the front office can pull off such a feat they will start their own dynasty for the Lakers, and though it is all a lot easier said than done there is nothing that tells me they couldn’t get this done, especially with the already attractive location and franchise name the Lakers brings to the table.
