Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri believes Arsenal fans only hate him because they used to love him in the past.

The French international was a star player at the Emirates Stadium, but infuriated Gunners fans when he joined Manchester City in 2011 for around £25m.

Nasri will return once again to the north London outfit on Saturday evening and is expecting a frosty reception from the supporters who brand him a 'mercenary'.

Speaking to Manchester City's official website, Nasri said: "I don't expect to be welcomed with open arms by the crowd but hopefully that's because they were disappointed to see me leave and perhaps at some point they loved me."

After making a slow start to his career with the Citizens, Nasri has flourished playing under Manuel Pellegrini. He has scored eight goals and made five assists in all competitions this season.
