The Lakers might be trying to get in contention again sooner than later. Though they may be able to do so there is a big risk that comes with that and if these rumors are true I hope that all of Laker fans are ready to go on the roller coaster ride that Dwight Howard took us on.
These rumors I'm talking about consist of the Lakers organization finally getting together a trade package that the Timberwolves would be willing to accept for superstar forward Kevin Love. In that package the Lakers would be trading their first round pick along with a few other players that we may or may not need.
The big problem with this deal is the fact that we would be trading our current first rounder, I mean in a draft this stacked our first rounder could easily be a superstar. I know you may be saying, 'sure but what if he is a bust?' Well the fact is Love has openly stated his interest for coming to play for the Lakers so, why give away someone who may be a future superstar for him when we can wait and get him in free agency.
The Lakers are seeming like a desperate team in need of an already proven superstar to bring more fans into the arena. If they don't start thinking about the future the Lakers may be the new era Clippers. They still have a chance to recover from the whole Dwight Howard saga because of our seemingly inevitable future of getting Love.
Here is what I say we do: we keep our first rounder/lottery pick and draft the guy that we want. Maybe we hit a gold mine and get our future superstar for the next 20 years of Lakers basketball, or maybe we don't, but one thing I can say is there is a lot of potential in any guy we draft.
Secondly we wait patiently and get Love in the 2015 free agency, also not a lock that he would come to LA but with all of the cap space we will have, and the interest that he has shown in coming back to his home town I believe that we could get him fairly easy.
So basically if we wait we can possibly be wrapping up a future star in the league and still have an already proven superstar in Love. As the saying goes "patience is a virtue", so let's be patient LA and make sure we don't mess up our future trying to win now.
