Liverpool are set to face competition in their reported transfer pursuit of Dani Parejo after it emerged the Valencia midfielder is also a summer target for Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone.
The 24-year-old former Spain under-21 international has recently been linked with a £20 million transfer to Liverpool in the summer window but, it is claimed by Plaza Deportiva, Simeone has also identified Parejo as a potential recruit.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is expected to add to his Anfield midfield before the transfer deadline at the end of the summer period, although Atletico may be in even greater need of bolstering their ranks in the middle of the park were the to lose Koke.
Manchester United have been linked with the acquisition of Koke, and Parejo is reported to have been lined-up as a potential replacement for his compatriot. Parejo is a graduate of the Real Madrid academy system and it remains to be seen if he will secure a return to the Spanish capital.
Parejo is out of contract next summer, and it may be that Liverpool or Atletico could sign the player for a fee less than the £20 million that had initially been mentioned with the interest from Merseyside was first reported.
