Manchester United have won the race to sign Southampton’s Luke Shaw, according to reports in today’s Sunday People.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was reportedly closing in on a deal that would see Shaw join the club at the end of the season, however Manchester United have managed to gazump their rivals by offering Southampton £27million for the teenager.
Many had tipped Shaw to reject a move to Old Trafford due to the fact that he supported Chelsea as a boy - but it now seems as if the highly-rated full-back could be swapping Southampton for Manchester rather than London.
Reports suggest the 18-year-old, who could be named in Roy Hodgson’s 23-man World Cup squad ahead of Chelsea star Ashley Cole, is likely to earn in the region of £85,000-a-week if he does decide to move to the Premier League champions.
Manchester United’s potential capture of Shaw will be a massive coup for both David Moyes and Ed Woodward, as the pair failed to bring in several big names during their first summer at the helm of the club.
Moyes is very much in the market for a new left-back due to the fact that Patrice Evra could leave the club at the end of the season and Shaw is said to be at the top of his transfer wish-list.
