Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo is being lined-up at Salford City – if you believe Gary Neville, that is.
The former full-back joked on Twitter that the number seven shirt at the club he now part-owns is being saved for the reigning FIFA Ballon d’Or champion.
However, it would be the biggest transfer coup of all-time – and then some – if Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Phil Neville could lure the Portuguese superstar to Salford.
Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan had joked that he should get the shirt from the Manchester United old boys, but the first team coach of the Three Lions quickly shot down the pundit.
He replied: "Cristiano is having that!" In a later Tweet, he then joked: "Chris Tiano from Bolton!"
It might be April Fool’s Day tomorrow, but you’d have to be the biggest clown in town to believe that the former Manchester United star could end up in the Northern Premier League Division One North.
Neville & Co might be better off going for some other former Red Devils to help build the club up – Juan Sebastian Veron and Chris Casper names that initially spring to mind.
Former Manchester United managerial legend Sir Alex Ferguson is also currently available, filling his time in the stands at Old Trafford most weekend. His arrival would be a major coup for the club.
