Real Salt Lake defender called up to USA squad

Jurgen Klinsmann has called up Real Salt Lake defender, Tony Beltran to the USA squad to face Mexico in a friendly this week.

The decision was made when  Seattle midfielder Brad Evans was ruled out of the tie after  complications to a calf injury suffered earlier in the season.

Beltran was called up to the USA squad for the Gold Cup last summer and made two appearances in the tournament.

The defender has started all four of Salt Lake's MLS games so far this season and will join club teammate Kyle Beckerman in the squad for the friendly.

The game has been overshadowed slightly by Mexican team Puebla F.C's decision to not release United States players' DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Orozco for the rivalry game.

Klinsmann was so disappointed by the decision that he took to twitter to express his frustration. However, the USA coach will hope to get Beltran and a number of other fringe players involved in the friendly as the team continue to build toward the 2014 World Cup.
