LA Angels coach Don Baylor has become the first person in his franchise to go on the injured list.

The new hitting coach for the Angels was sent out to catch the ceremonial first pitch, thrown by former LA Angel and now retired Vladimir Guerrero.

Guerrero was signed up for one day so that he could officially retire as an LA Angel and threw the pitch to his fellow former MVP, Baylor.

Baylor was crouched and as the pitch went low and wide out, he brought his glove over to his unnatural side to catch it and lost balance, putting all the weight on his right leg.

Sounds like a completely innocent and innocuous incident, which it is. But that didn't stop 64-year old Baylor fracturing his right femur and needing help to to stand and come off the field.

Baylor will have surgery tomorrow after being immediately taken to hospital following the incident.

This compounded a poor opening day for the Angels, who lost to the Seattle Mariner 10-3 including 3 RBI's from Justin Smoak, including a homer.
