Ever since the appointment of Tim Sherwood, Tottenham have managed to win ten matches out of a possible 22 - losing nine and drawing three.
With a win percentage of just 45% most of the fans are still shocked that he was not sacked. After the sacking of Villas-Boas in December most of the Tottenham fans thought they would appoint a more experienced manager but instead their chairman put his trust in the former assistant manager Sherwood.
After the sale of sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid Tottenham spend around £115million on new players. With the addition of Paulinho, Nacer Chadli, Roberto Soldado, Etienne Capoue, Vlad Chiriches, Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela everyone expected Spurs to be an unstoppable force this season, but they have failed to deliver.
Eriksen and Paulinho are the only two players that have actually made a difference to the squad this campaign. Lamela has hardly played at all and with Soldado taking four months to score his first Premier League goal, one could say Tottenham wasted a combined total of £60million on them.
One player who benefited a lot from Sherwood's appointment was Emmanuel Adebayor. With the striker scoring 11 goals in 19 appearance Sherwood made the right decision is making him as his number one striker. Another player who benefited was young talent Nabil Benatleb. The young central midfielder from France did not disappoint when he was given a chance.
While everyone expected Tottenham to finish in the top four this season with the squad they have and the amount of money they spent they have let down their fans. If they manage to snatch fifth place from Everton and book a place in Europe then Sherwood should be appreciated for his efforts, given the condition in which Villas-Boas left the squad.
With just six games remaining this season Sherwood needs to win all of them to win the trust of the Tottenham faithful and more importantly of chairman Daniel Levy. If Tottenham do finish fifth this season Sherwood should be given another year to prove himself. With a perfect squad one would expect them to finish in the top four next season or even challenge for the title.
