The WWE has showcased some of the finest managers to guide the superstars. From Bobby Heenan, Jimmy Hart and Paul Bearer, to some of the most popular managers today in Zeb Colter and Paul Heyman.
But never has there been a much better time to have a manager, not just any manager but having the honour of calling yourself a 'Paul Heyman guy'.
Paul Heyman will easily go down as one of the greatest managers of all time, perhaps just behind the incredible Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan. The heat he brings upon himself with his genius microphone work and the ability to get the best out of his 'clients' are just some of the things what make Heyman special.
Curtis Axel and Ryback were small blips and are already forgotten about, because the likes of CM Punk popularised the term 'Paul Heyman guy'. Right now he only has the one client in 'The Beast' Brock Lesnar but in a recent interview with ThisInInfamous.com, Paul Heyman teased that there will be a new Paul Heyman guy.
He said: "Oh, absolutely! I’ve already signed a new Paul Heyman guy! Oh no! We’re going to broadcast his identity and we’re going to publicize and promote it and present it and market it and make as big a splash as humanly possible regarding this new Paul Heyman guy."
You can check out the full interview here.
So who could it be? Could Heyman simply be teasing us or does he actually have a superstar up his sleeve to promote as the next 'Paul Heyman guy'? Let's take a look at who the lucky individual could be.
Okay this is more of a fantasy than a reality but Damien Sandow has lost his way in the WWE ever since the night he failed to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase on John Cena. Right now no fan would complain if he was standing in the ring as the World Heavyweight Champion but instead the WWE decided to unify the titles and have Sandow compete in various small feuds and is now currently jobbing to the likes of Sin Cara on a weekly basis.
Cue Paul Heyman who could save Sandow's career. Both men are amazing on the microphone and it would make for some good TV. However with the failures of Ryback and Curtis Axel I highly doubt the WWE would want to stick another mid-card talent with Heyman.
Just like Damien Sandow the WWE made a massive mistake with The Miz, by turning him face. As a heel The Miz was one of the most hated guys in the company and someone in the company obviously liked him enough to stick the WWE Championship on him, have him main event WrestleMania and pin John Cena to retain the title. Now The Miz is a heel again and is not taken as seriously as his previous heel run.
The Miz is a good worker there is no denying that and as a heel he can cut some very good promos and Paul Heyman can take The Miz to another level. He will benefit greatly by having Paul Heyman in his corner on a weekly basis, at least he is guaranteed to be more of a success than Ryback and Axel.
The SHIELD/Roman Reigns
It is only a matter of time before The SHIELD break-up to the annoyance of many WWE fans but the WWE has a habit of doing this. Nevertheless Paul Heyman may not acquire one superstar but he could create an alliance with the two remaining members of The SHIELD in Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose who are likely to turn heel once Roman Reigns turns face. Heyman's presence in the group will show that The SHIELD won't need a replacement for Roman Reigns but they will gain somebody who is incredible to have in your corner and both men will benefit from this.
Roman Reigns is a little tricky, although you can imagine Paul Heyman as his manager as Reigns is not the best on the microphone but is still constantly improving, Heyman could be his voice and the one to guide him to the top. As good as it sounds it is almost a guarantee that Reigns will be a face and Heyman won't be able to come across as a true face as much as he does as a heel.
Wade Barrett is another superstar in dire need of help. It is frustrating as a Barrett fan because you just feel that he is special but just how long can we keep waiting for his big break to finally occur? Nevertheless it looks as if his 'Bad News Barrett' gimmick will keep his appearances limited to the elevating podium on a weekly basis. Hopefully we have some good news for once and Heyman will align himself with Barrett.
Both men can talk and Barrett is an imposing figure in the ring so he does have it all. If anybody can help Wade Barrett come out of his mid-card situation and move to the big stage where he really belongs, Paul Heyman is the man you call.
