WWE hall-of-famer Stone Cold Steve Austin has shared his admiration for Wrestlemania XXX headliner Brock Lesnar in a recent interview with UFC.tv, insisting that the former UFC heavyweight champion is a pioneer that demands respect from fans of either organisation.
Lesnar swapped sports entertainment for the Octagon in 2008 and managed to become king of the 265lbs division inside 12 months, a remarkable rise to the top of a field that demands the upmost commitment in terms of physical demands and technical expertise.
Steve Austin believes that Lesnar's brief but brutal seven-fight spell in the UFC doesn't get the praise it deserves, particularly when you consider that the three-time WWE champion had just a exemplary collegiate wrestling background to draw from when he decided to become a mixed-martial-artist at the highest level.
In an interview for the UFC's Fight Pass network the Rattlesnake said: "When Brock Lensar fought, people bought the fights. I have a ton of respect for him. I think Brock woke up everybody in the MMA world.
"Brock Lesnar is just a monstrous, frankenstein of a human being. You don't see guys like him walking around every single day of your life, he's got a presence.
"For a guy to go in there from the pro wrestling world and raise as much hell, cut loose and dominate like he did, the bottom line is Brock is a bad-ass cat."
The 36-year-old is now back in the WWE and very much of the heart of this Sunday's historic Wrestlemania XXX card, taking on a man that has never been beaten on the grandest stage of the them all in The Undertaker in the main event of a bumper New Orleans card.
