Well that's that sorted then. You can suspend all betting on who's going to be the number one pick in the 2014 NFL draft now.
Jadeveon Clowney has - barring complete total incompetence from the Houston Texans - has wrapped up that top spot on the board all for himself and topped it off with a nice red bow with his name on it.
That's how impressive the former South Carolina Gamecock was during his pro day this morning.
We all knew that Clowney was a physical freak, he proved it game in game out during his exceptional three year college career.
But what was in question before today was his work rate, and attitude towards hard work. Well he went and blew all those questions out of the water.
“I think I showed them I’m a fighter,” Clowney told NFL Network’s Mike Mayock after the workout. “That I can push through anything.”
He did it with aplomb. He was pushed physically by his coaches - no broom waving lunacy here like Johnny Manziel's "sideshow" of a pro day - and was physically exhausted by the time he got off the field.
Clowney proved that he can work hard and backed up Texans' head coach Bill O'Brien's statement that he "doesn't have any concerns about his motor."
Following today you really struggle to find anything to critique about Clowney and he seemingly has become the consensus number one pick, to the extent that if any other name is called out first it would be a shock.
Your move Houston.
