Everything the Houston Texans have done so far this off-season points to them selecting Jadeveon Clowney with the number one pick in the 2014 NFL draft and the prospect will visit the franchise next month.
The Texans watched every snap the defensive end played in college for the South Carolina Gamecocks and were thoroughly impressed with the raw, explosive ability of Clowney.
They met with Clowney at the Combine, they were wowed by his 40-yard dash time and even spoke more with 6 ft 6 inch 21-year-old in South Carolina on Tuesday.
General Manager of the Texans Rick Smith said on Wednesday night that: "He's gonna come to Houston at some point later in the month as well"
Clowney put on another intriguing display at his pro day in South Carolina and Smith spoke of the contact that he has had thus far with the prospect: "We talked with him in Indianapolis and spent some time with him there, but that meeting was more rushed, It’s a 15 minute block that's back-to-back to back with other guys."
He continued by proclaiming: "It was an opportunity for us to really kind of slow the pace down and really get to know the young man, what he's all about, and it really was a good meeting. This process is exhaustive so we're gonna spend as much time with him and as many other prospects as we can to make sure that we know exactly who they are and what kind of men they are."
All of Houston's actions lead to the expected selection of Clowney with the overall number one pick but would that be the right move for the franchise?
Another hyped prospect Johnny Manziel is also in contention to be picked up by Houston considering he went to Texas A&M University and the Texans need for a quarterback.
The 2014 NFL draft begins Thursday, May 8th and we will then know who the Texans will pick with their first round selection.
