Marco Reus expected to be handed a final offer from La Liga giants Barcelona, according to Spanish publication SPORT.
The Borussia Dortmund playmaker has been the subject of interest from a number of clubs across Europe in recent time, and it appeared that the Catalans were leading the race for his signature.
However, after the Spanish giants were struck with a transfer ban for breaches regarding the registration of players aged 18 and under, the potential move now looks off.
If reports are to be believed, the La Liga outfit were willing to pay up to €40 million for the player's services.
However, Barcelona will now be unable to sign anyone in the next two windows, meaning Chelsea could be in the driving seat for the signature of Reus.
The Blues were in action against PSG in the Champions League quarter-finals last night and suffered a 3-1 defeat in France. Reus was also in European action as his side were on the wrong end of a 3-0 scoreline against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.
It now remains to be seen as to whether the likes of Chelsea and Co. step up their interest in the highly rated playmaker in the near future.
