Champions League: Best XI of the week (1)

The Champions League returned in all of its unrivalled majesty this week, with four mouth-watering quarter-final first-leg ties not failing to live up to their lofty billing.

On Tuesday night, Premier League champions Manchester United managed to defy lowly expectations to claim a 1-1 draw with Pep Guardiola's formidable Bayern Munich at Old Trafford, while over in Spain Barcelona were held by the same scoreline at home to domestic rivals Atletico Madrid.

Yesterday, Chelsea had a poor defensive display and a lack of incisiveness in front of goal to blame as they slumped to a demoralising 3-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain inside the Parc des Princes and Real Madrid appeared well on the way to avenging last year's semi-final exit to Borussia Dortmund with a thumping 3-0 win over the same opponents in the Spanish capital.

As ever after a busy week of action with several top-quality performances, it is somewhat tough to pick the best XI.

However, the fine folks over at WhoScored have done so based on their match rating system and we will show you who has made the cut right here. The players are arranged into a 4-4-2 system.
