Manchester City are set to beat arch-rivals Manchester United to the signing of Porto's Eliaquim Mangala.
Manchester City sporting director Txiki Begiristain was reportedly in Portugal to run the rule over the Porto star during his side's Europa League tie against Sevilla.
Begiristain would have been extremely impressed with what he saw as Mangala helped his side claim a slender 1-0 victory by scoring the winner and shutting out Sevilla's forward line.
News of Manchester City's move to sign Mangala could force Manchester United and Chelsea into making a move for the Frenchman, however the duo are unlikely to outbid Manuel Pellegrini's side.
Manchester City will be hoping Mangala can forge a strong partnership with club captain Vincent Kompany next season, as Martin Demichelis has failed to impress this season.
Manchester United could switch their attention back to Benfica's Ezequiel Garay if they are beaten to Mangala's signature.
