Juan Mata | Lacks pace
Juan Mata is a wonderfully gifted footballer with the perfect attitude. He must be a dream to work alongside and coach.
However, there was a reason why Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho agreed to sell the Spanish World Cup winner to Manchester United earlier this year: his lack of pace and small stature.
Mata is no slouch and certainly has no stamina issues, but he is not as quick as many of his peers who play in similar positions, which makes it difficult for him to keep up with swift and incisive counter-attacks.
When he plays in his favoured No. 10 role, however, this isn’t too much of a problem. Mata makes up for his lack of pace with his world-class passing ability.
