Reports suggest that a number of top Premier League clubs are preparing sensational bids for two of Southampton's promising players.
Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw both impressed when given the chance in Roy Hodgson's England squad and vastly improved their chances of flying out to Brazil this summer for the World Cup.
As a result, their value has rocketed. However, this has not deterred a number of England's top clubs, who believe the players are worth their price tags – a well reported £30million for Shaw and a modest £20million for Lallana.
Adam Lallana, who can play anywhere across the attacking midfield, will provide a boost to any team. The midfielder has scored nine goals this season, on top of the creativity and chances that he provides his team-mates with.
Luke Shaw, who is just 18-years-old, is a target for many clubs as a direct replacement for their ageing left backs, such as Chelsea's Ashley Cole and Manchester United's Patrice Evra, both of which look likely to leave their current clubs on free transfers at the end of the season.
Due to the 'Home grown player rule', which states that 'clubs cannot name more than 17 non home grown players aged over 21', all clubs must have a number of English players registered in their squads, which can often lead to promising English players to demand hefty transfer fees.
However, the high fees have not deterred a number of top Premier League clubs, with Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City interested in the 18-year-old Shaw.
Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United are reportedly set to go to war for the services of Lallana, who was recently likened to a Spanish player by his manager, Mauricio Pochettino, who claimed he 'has the skills of an Iniesta, Xavi or Cesc Fabregas'.
Southampton are well known for the talent they create and some of the world's best talent has been shaped by their youth academy – think £80million Gareth Bale.
However, after an impressive season, which sees them lying in 8th place in the Premier League table, it is hard to believe they will be desperate to sell two of their best players on the cheap.
Prepare for Southampton to be the focus in this summer's transfer window.
