Minnesota Timberwolves Forward Dante Cunningham was charged Friday with assault amid reports that he chocked his girlfriend during an argument.

Cunningham has been charged with one felony count of domestic assault by strangulation and remained jailed on Friday evening.

A complaint filed with police stated that Cunningham had held his girlfriend against the wall for 15-20 seconds during which she could not breath.

The unnamed woman did not need medical treatment following the incident but called 911 immediately after Cunningham released her.

The couple had been living together for eight months and this was the first reported incident of domestic violence.

Cunningham was unable to travel with the Timberwolves on Thursday as they left for a two-game road trip to the Miami Heat and Orlando Magic respectively.
