However, recent reports claim Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is prepared to sell the striker if the club receive a bid of around £25m. The Portuguese coach has been involved in a war-of-words with the youngster on occasions this season, while it's believe that the relationship between the two men has deteriorated over recent months.
Arsenal are reportedly keen - and Campbell believes the Belgian starlet would be the perfect summer signing for the Gunners, whose Premier League title hopes now lie in tatters following a string of poor recent results.
“I think Romelu Lukaku is a star,” Campbell told talkSPORT. “Last season he was at West Bromwich Albion on loan and had a fantastic season but I think the jury was out because people wanted to see what he would do this year.
“He’s come into Goodison Park though and he has been a revelation and changed the way the team have attacked. He has fitted into Roberto Martinez’s system perfectly.
“If he’s not part of Chelsea’s plans next season I’m sure Everton would like to sign him. If they can’t do business though, I wouldn’t be surprised if the likes of Arsenal are interested in him.
“He’s young, he’s strong, he’s quick and he’s direct. What more do you need?”
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen to sign another striker to provide competition for Olivier Giroud, with Nicklas Bendtner poised to leave the Emirates Stadium when his current deal expires at the end of the season.
