MLS Goal of the Season contender scored by Spaniard

Colorado Rapids defensive midfielder Jose Mari scored an MLS Goal of the Season contender against Vancouver Whitecaps at the weekend.

The 26-year-old, who previously played for Real Zaragoza, showed his quality with a sublime cultured strike from 25 yards to level the scores. Two minutes later the Spaniard scored his second goal of the afternoon - and his second goal for the club - albeit in slightly less spectacular fashion.

But it was Mari's first goal that really caught the eye - and must surely be an early contender for the Goal of the Season accolade. The Rapids' new boy received the ball from left-back Marc Burch and allowed the ball to bounce twice before catching the sweet spot, sending it hurtling into the back of the net via the inside of the far post.

It also appeared as if Mari marked his stunning goal with a matador celebration - which, in our opinion, adds to the overall beauty of the goal.
