After ending Bayern Munich's 53 matches unbeaten streak with a 1-0 win on Saturday, what does this mean for a team such as Augsburg and possibly run-in for the season.
As relative newcomers to the Bundesliga, their third season ever, many people would expect them to go down as they have a hovered with relegation for their two seasons so far, however this season they have shocked the League and on the fringes of Europe currently sitting 9th, but after a little blip in form leading into their game against Bayern Munich, it was expected that they would be trampled over like many teams before them.
However, Augsburg had other ideas and won 1-0 they were solid and have shown this season to have finally settled in the Bundesliga and despite a poor March with only one win from six games, they could potentially now have a successful April which could see them sneak into Europe but the main positive really is maintaining a top half finish, which is more realistic for the club.
This season Augsburg have ensured throughout this season to make their Bavarian home a fortress which they have done to a good extent winning seven of their 14 games while, have ensured throughout to be defensively solid while that ethos is true against Bayern Munich and their half season form, it has to be noted though, especially against bottom half sides this season is what has been their difference maker, ensuring to have an edge over their rivals, while being competitive against their top half foes.
With five games left in the Bundesliga they have an outside chance of Europe but a greater chance of solidifying that top half berth, with games against Hamburg, Eintracht Frankfurt and Braunschweig, Hoffenheim and Hertha Berlin, they will be an essence of belief that these five games could be what defines there season from what is a great season and deserves praise, to a historic season for the team.
