Was age the ultimate factor in ending the Undertaker's streak?

WWE fans across the globe were stunned to silence last night during WrestleMania XXX as Brock Lesnar made history by ending the Undertaker's undefeated streak.

In a result very few expected, Lesnar was undoubtedly the underdog heading into the match, which he ultimately won by flooring 'Taker with a final F5.

Though Lesnar's victory was not entirely unlikely, (he is one of the biggest names on the roster at the moment and is called 'The Beast' for a reason) to win 21 successive matches then finally succumb to Lesnar seemed unrealistic.

The reason for the win though, is still unclear. Perhaps the most plausible explanation is that The Phenom reaches his milestone age of 50 next year, and it may well be that his body simply cannot take anymore wrestling, even if for one match a year.

Another cause may be Taker's personal commitments. After all, he has a one-year old daughter and has only been married to his latest wife, ex-wrestler Michelle McCool, for a few years.

Also, it may be believed that the WWE legend has a lot of time on his hands outside of the industry now, but he is a co-owner of a real estate business as well as being an avid UFC and music fan.

Though having his streak ended does not mean the Undertaker will never return to WWE, it is disappointing if it results in the likes of John Cena or Daniel Bryan not having a chance at facing The Dead Man whether at a future WrestleMania or at all.

If the ultimate dream opponent of the Undertaker, Sting is ever to face the Phenom then it cannot be long before this match takes place. Both men are in or approaching their fifties, but if it is the case that they never enter the ring again, will undoubtedly be honoured for their historic WWE careers.

Being a legend of WWE, what we do know is that the Undertaker would not have allowed a defeat of the streak which insinuates the possible end of his career unless he physically and mentally felt that he absolutely had to.

For Lesnar though, his win means he will make the history books. Though a shock victory it was a defeat nonetheless and he should be admired for being the chosen one to end the streak.

One thing is for sure, all of the action from WrestleMania XXX at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in Louisiana last night, makes for an extremely exciting Monday Night RAW in New Orleans this evening.
