Ehrhoff before and after surgery.

NHL star suffers horrific ear injury

Published Add your comment

The NHL is a dangerous sport. We all know that yet the events that transpired this week managed to put the fear back into us all again.

AHL player Mitch Callahan scared the hell out of everyone on Thursday when he tweeted out a picture after being smacked in the face by an errant puck in a game for the Grand Rapids Griffins.

The 22-year old lost ten teeth, had his lip bust open, and broke his jaw but still somehow managed the most horrifying bloodied smile i've ever had the displeasure of witnessing.

And now there's something else to freak the jeebies out of everyone.

Buffalo Sabres defenseman Christian Ehrhoff tweeted out a gruesome before and after picture of the injury that led to 40 stitches.

The captain took a puck to the ear in the third period of last nights game against the Philadelphia Flyers which caused his ear to split wide open, dissecting it perfectly into two halves.

To add insult to injury, the Sabres lost the match 5-2 and fellow defenseman Chad Ruhwedel suffered a concussion after taking an elbow to the head.
