WWE: Did CM Punk cost AJ Lee her title?

Published Add your comment

AJ Lee is WWE Divas champion no more and, following her shock defeat on RAW, the conspiracy theorists are out in force. As fans scratch their heads and wonder just why AJ Lee would have to relinquish her title just one day after WrestleMania, some are blaming CM Punk. Of course they are.

CM Punk left the WWE after the Royal Rumble this year, perhaps for good, and his departure from the company was a relatively acrimonious one. And, given that CM Punk is engaged to AJ Lee (for real, we must add) there are some suggesting his apparently damaged relationship with Vince McMahon may have caused his fiancee to lose her crown.

AJ Lee had been champion for 295 days until this week’s edition of RAW, and successfully defended her title against 13 other Divas at WrestleMania XXX on Sunday. However, just 24 hours later, and AJ Lee was champion no longer as newcomer Paige took the crown on WWE debut.

Is this an example of the WWE exacting retribution on CM Punk for his decision to quit the company? Well, some fans on Twitter think so. But there is also another theory, and a far nicer one. Perhaps, some fans say, AJ Lee has been afforded some time away from the business so her and Punk can tie the knot.

Could either of these theories be true? Is AJ Lee off on sabbatical? Leave your comments below.
