England batsman Joe Root has extended his stay with Yorkshire after signing a new contract keeping him at Headingley until 2016.

Sheffield-born Root made his county debut four years ago and has since played 34 First Class matches where he averages over 43.

Lee Westwood believes he is close to a return to his best form as he prepares for this week's Masters at Augusta National.

The 40-year-old Englishman has dropped to 37th in the world rankings, but is looking forward to the first major of the year with new coach Mike Walker and old caddie Billy Foster.

Andy Murray admits he was outplayed by Fabio Fognini as the Italian ended his run of 19 straight victories in Davis Cup singles on Sunday.

Great Britain led 2-1 going into the final day, but Murray went down in straight sets and James Ward was unable to beat Andrea Seppi, meaning they missed the opportunity to reach the semi-finals of the tournament for the first time since 1981.
